WE WERE sent to the bye rounds in style with a whopping 12 players scoring over 130, led by the Pig Tom Mitchell’s 145. On the flip side, there was plenty of carnage with form players Allen Christensen, Jed Anderson, Jack Darling and David Zaharakis all injured on scores ranging from 12 to … -3 (have mercy). We are however into the byes where the main aim of the game is to minimise donuts and finish the three-week period with a better team than we started it.
Fantasy Pig
Tom Phillips is fast becoming one of my favourite Fantasy players as the running machine just keeps producing massive scores for his .7 per cent of owners. Discounting the game where he was knocked out while kicking a goal in round eight (even manages +6 while asleep) he is on a massive tear with scores of 143, 120, 121, 114 and 128 in his most recent games. His 143 against the Dockers came from 36 possessions, 10 marks and three goals … didn’t need to bother with a tackle this week.
Honourable mention: Bryce Gibbs bounced back to his best and is now available for a nice price after dropping over $120,000 prior to this week's 142. He was everywhere, gathering 36 possessions, five marks and nine tackles to make him a premium to consider bringing in this week if it helps your bye balance over the next two rounds and doesn’t make you heavy in round 14.
Rage trades
Robbie Gray and Tom Rockliff will be part of a few rage trades that will be reversed very quickly. We already knew Gray’s scoring had dried up with his forward role and that was confirmed as he was rarely spotted outside the forward 50 against the Hawks. He kicked four goals but only scored 69 due to collecting just 13 possessions. Rocky on the other hand was thrown into a complete lockdown role in the second half which dried up his output following back-to-back 100s as a ball-winning mid in his previous two games. The reason I say to reverse the trades is because these guys will have our back over the next three weeks with every game in Adelaide.
Honourable mention: Nat Fyfe. In a game where 12 players reached triple figures in a scoring frenzy, coaches were disappointed with the output of the superstar Fyfe, who prior to this weekend was sitting in the rolling 22 as a top-eight midfielder (tune into the podcast for updates). He managed just 76 points from 24 touches and five marks … not a disaster, but a game where we expect a 130.
FROM THE TWOS: Sun has it on a string
Piglet
Logan Austin costs a packet now but after another awesome game playing loose in the backline he is worth the punt through the byes if he keeps playing his current role. Austin took a whopping 14 marks and had 26 possessions for a score of 112. He is unrecognisable from the player who averaged 30 during his career at the Power.
Paul Ahern finally got the chance to play on the big stage and he didn’t let anyone down with 29 possessions, five marks and six tackles for 92. The mature-age DPP has the difficult round 13 bye, but he is a borderline must-have based on that performance.
Trade targets
- Justin Westhoff
- Angus Brayshaw
- Darcy Byrne-Jones
- Logan Austin
- Paul Ahern
THINGS WE LEARNED: The Saints could be dangerous now

Insane finish in our draft league tonight! After the final game, Jack Bauer Power had lost by 6 and dogs on fire had lost by 3. Due to final score corrections, both teams unbelievably got over the line by a single point! #hailmary @CalvinDT @WarnieDT @RoyDT pic.twitter.com/HFy3TDbIOf

Absolute classic!
@RoyDT One for trade talk... Am I crazy for thinking about Tom Phillips? 128, 114, 49 from 45%, 121, 120 and 143... Most in form mid? Better off with Pendles or Treloar?

I’m never one to chase a unique pick, however, I love this one on a platter! He is a star.
Nothing relevant really for new DPP. Only a bit of extra flexibility with Fritsch & Guelfi. Other than that, move on as nothing to see.

Yeah for sure, straight back to navigating these byes while trying to avoid straight swapping premiums and ensuring our trades to make us better long term.
