NOT only have they made history on the field, players in the NAB AFL Women's competition have reached into their pockets to assist those with mental illness.
Players from the eight AFLW clubs have donated $5425 to beyondblue through the AFL Players' Association charity program, AFL Players Care.
Each player contributed $25 for the season – a pro-rata amount based on the donations made by male players.
Beyondblue helps support people affected by depression, anxiety and suicide.
The eight AFLW clubs contributed to a shortlist of charities before the players voted beyondblue as their chosen charity.
AFLW players have been paid a minimum of $8500 for the first season of the competition.
Marquee players – two at each club – receive $27,000 while priority signings are paid $12,000.
The remaining players on the list are on the minimum payment.
