THE WESTERN Bulldogs have retained the services of youngster Lukas Webb, with the third-year midfielder recommitting to the club on a new two-year deal.

AFL.com.au understands the 21-year-old has finally signed a contract that has been on the table for a few months.

After playing only 19 games – including just four this season - since being taken with pick No.27 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, the classy left footer was assured by coach Luke Beveridge in his exit meeting this week that he has a bright future at Whitten Oval.

The retirements of Robert Murphy and Matthew Boyd, and the need for the Dogs to inject some better ball users into the side, should see the Lakes Entrance product receive plenty of opportunities in the coming seasons.

In a VFL season where he is averaging nearly 25 possessions a game and kicked 15 goals, Webb has continued to improve his ability to win the contested ball after arriving at the club as a flanker.

Webb joins Jason Johannisen, Bailey Dale, Marcus Adams, Bailey Williams and Tim English as important pieces of the Bulldogs' future to re-sign in 2017.
