FORMER Kangaroo Aaron Black has booted two goals for Geelong in a VFL practice match against Collingwood on Saturday at the Holden Centre, to show he might be able to add another string to the senior team's forward line.
Meanwhile Magpie trio Callum Brown, Tom Langdon and Tim Broomhead have emerged unscathed from their first competitive hitout.
Brown is the son of premiership Magpie Gavin and was struck down by glandular fever in January.
He sat out the second half, along with Langdon, Brayden Sier and Kayle Kirby. Langdon and Sier had limited pre-seasons after suffering back injuries.
Playing largely as a forward, Brown struggled to have an impact. He finished goalless, although he missed a chance when he had a shot on the run but pushed it wide.
Broomhead looked in fine form playing largely through the midfield, and kicked an important goal in the last quarter.
For Geelong, Black looked dangerous whenever he had the ball. A smart piece of play saw him use his left foot to snap the ball across his body and find a teammate running into an open goal.
The Cats' captain for the day, cult hero Wylie Buzza, was his side's best player. He started up forward and finished the game in the ruck and was able to take contested marks wherever he played. The 21-year-old slotted two goals.
Jed Bews played up forward and in the middle as he trials some different roles, having been a backman in the past. Bews was quiet early but he kicked a goal in each of the third and fourth quarters.
Magpie defender Matt Scharenberg played the full game and looked composed. A knock early in the final term would have been a worrying moment for the Pies, but he was able to complete the match.
Returning big man Lachie Keeffe looked good up forward and in the ruck, finishing with a goal.
Josh Thomas impressed as an onballer and kicked the match-winning goal with the final kick of the game as Collingwood overcame a 15-point deficit at the last break, winning 10.10 (70) to 10.8 (68).
