THE TRANSFORMATION of Metricon Stadium is accelerating ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, with Gold Coast's AFL home preparing to welcome some of the world's best athletes.
Metricon Stadium will host the Games' opening ceremony on April 4 next year, as well as seven days of track and field competition and the closing ceremony on April 15.
The most recent photograph of the venue, taken on Thursday, shows rapid progress is being made on the delivery of two running tracks as the venue is reconfigured for next year's major event.
Extra seating and grandstands are also being added to the venue, expanding the capacity from 25,000 to 35,000, while lighting upgrades have been made.
The Metricon Stadium surface was cleared and goalposts were removed in mid-September, with contractors moving in to complete the radical transformation.
The Suns will play their first game of the 2018 season at the venue on June 2, 48 days after the closing ceremony.
