FORMER Fremantle player Shane Yarran has pleaded not guilty in a Perth court to an allegation that he stabbed another man.
The 27-year-old appeared in Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he pleaded not guilty to unlawful wounding over an alleged assault in July 2015 - four months before he was drafted by the Dockers.
He is due back in court for a trial allocation hearing on February 28.
Yarran still faces a separate charge over an assault allegedly involving a family member and previously indicated he would plead not guilty to that offence.
He will appear in court for that matter on February 7.
Yarran, who was a fourth-round pick in 2015's national draft and played six games last season, took personal leave before retiring last month after he made headlines over the two alleged incidents.
Fremantle chief executive Steve Rosich said in a statement at the time that it was agreed by all parties that it was in Yarran's best interests to retire immediately.
"It was a difficult decision for Shane to reach, but both he and his management believe that focusing on his personal and off-field matters at this time needs to take priority over his football career," he said.
Media reports days later quoted an expletive-laden social media rant allegedly posted by Yarran in which he took aim at the club culture, coach Ross Lyon and Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe.
But the club said they were advised Yarran did not have a Facebook page and the account that posted the rant was deactivated.
