PORT Adelaide ruckman Paddy Ryder has been charged with assaulting police following an incident outside an Adelaide nightclub.
The Power released a statement confirming the All Australian was involved in an incident, along with his younger brother and cousin, at a club in Hindley Street on Sunday morning.
"Ryder met with club officials this morning to express his disappointment and regret for involving himself in an incident which primarily concerned his brother," a Port Adelaide statement said.
Ryder was among three men who allegedly hindered police and assaulted officers as they were attempting to break up a disturbance outside a licensed premises on Hindley Street in Adelaide.
In a statement, South Australian police said a 22-year-old man from Western Australia was arrested and charged with resisting police while a 23-year-old man from Western Australia was arrested and charged with assaulting police. The police officers involved sustained only minor injuries.
Ryder was released on bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on November 15.
The incident is a sour end to what has been a successful year for the 29-year-old.
The athletic big man was named in his first All Australian team following a standout season in which he averaged 37.8 hit-outs and 12.6 disposals per game.
Ryder, in his third season at Port Adelaide since being traded from Essendon, averaged career highs in hit-outs, inside 50s, clearances contested possessions and contested marks this season.
The Port ruckman also provided one of the highlights of the 2017 season with his brilliant ruck tap leading to the game-winning goal that Robbie Gray booted against St Kilda in round 19.
The West Australian moved to Port Adelaide in 2015 after playing 170 games with Essendon from 2006. He has played 40 AFL games in his three years at Alberton.
