THE INJURY fallout from the recent NAB AFL Women's State of Origin match continues, with Fremantle's Kirby Bentley undergoing surgery on the meniscus in her right knee. 

Bentley, playing for the Allies, hurt her knee late in the third term and was on crutches by the end of the match. 

The classy forward had ACL surgery on the same knee in 2016, choosing to receive a hybrid graft (where surgeons combine traditional and LARS reconstruction procedures to ensure a quicker recovery period). 

Although the AFLW pre-season commences in mid-November, Bentley is expected to return to training after Christmas with the aim of playing in round one, either in late January or early February.

In other news, Brisbane Lions captain Emma Zielke has finally returned home after spending five nights in hospital in Melbourne with broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Zielke copped an accidental knee to the ribs from a teammate while playing for the Allies, and was rushed straight to hospital. 

The midfielder, who was forced to travel home by train, is expected to start pre-season on time.
