ETIHAD Stadium caterers won't be left floundering by a rush on fish at the AFL's first Good Friday clash.
Many Christians all over the world traditionally eat fish instead of red meat (or pork) on the day they commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ – and the stadium's food outlets will be scaling up their offerings.
Food kiosks on levels one and three will be full to the brim with fish after venue management ordered one tonne of flathead fillets, tripling the normal amount of seafood available.
"That extrapolates to 3000 serves of crispy flathead fillets," Etihad Stadium spokesman Bill Lane told AFL.com.au.
"That's about three times the amount of fish that we’d normally sell.
For corporate areas and Medallion Club restaurants, the venue is promising a "seafood extravaganza".
For those hooked on regular footy fare, traditional meat pies will still be available.
The stadium is predicting the marquee fixture will net a crowd of more than 45,000 fans for the clash between North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.
The two clubs will be hoping for a good turnout to prove they deserve to keep the League's newest timeslot.
$5 from every adult ticket and $10 from family tickets will be donated to the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
