FREMANTLE star Stephen Hill will be sidelined for up to a month after scans confirmed a right hamstring strain.

Hill suffered the injury in the final quarter of Saturday night's thrilling five-point win over North Melbourne, pulling up short as he raced along the boundary line and dished off a handball. 

The 26-year-old remained on the field for several minutes, staying involved with the play on the far side of the ground away from the interchange bench, before eventually hobbling to the sidelines.

Freo coach Ross Lyon was hopeful Hill only had hamstring tightness, but the in-form onballer will miss Saturday night's Western Derby as well as clashes against Essendon, Richmond and possibly Carlton.

"Stephen had scans on Sunday and the subsequent report confirmed the extent of the injury to his right hamstring," general manager of football operations Chris Bond said. 

"At this stage the medical advice is that Stephen will be available for selection after a three to four week period of rehabilitation."

Hill has been integral to Freo's resurgence over the past three rounds and the classy onballer has averaged 25 disposals this season.
