MELBOURNE is optimistic promising key forward Liam Hulett won't have his pre-season derailed by an ankle injury suffered at training on Friday.
"The scan cleared him of any structural damage," elite performance manager Dave Misson told Melbourne's website.
"It’s just an ankle ligament sprain.
"It’s not a syndesmosis, so it’s a basic ankle ligament and we’ll reassess it (on) Monday.
"He may even get back into training at some stage next week."
Hulett was involved in a full-ground drill at Gosch's Paddock and went to strip the ball off teammate Colin Garland before going down.
The 19-year-old forward was unable to put any weight on his left leg and was soon taken away in a cart.
"It was almost like a soccer incident, 'Garlo' stepped on Liam’s ankle,” Misson said.
"Initially, it was pretty painful for Liam, but it looked a lot worse than it was."
Yet to make his senior debut, Hulett played 18 matches in the VFL for the Casey Scorpions last year.
He was drafted at No.46 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.
Update re: Hulett, it's his ankle, not his knee. Not sure yet how much training he will miss, if any. pic.twitter.com/7fgUBsK7uK
