WEST Coast has Greater Western Sydney match-winner Toby Greene in its sights and will do everything possible to get under the skin of the fiery Giant in Saturday's mini-elimination final, Eagles coach Adam Simpson says.
Greene was the gamebreaker last time the teams met, booting two superb last-quarter goals in a backs-to-the-wall eight-point victory in Perth in round 10.
The star Giant again looms as a major stumbling block for West Coast after he escaped his third suspension this season for planting a stray boot into Bulldog Luke Dahlhaus' face last round.
Simpson said the Eagles could target Greene, believing they might get into his head.
"I think we'll try everything to try to get him off his game. That might be part of it," Simpson said on Thursday.
"I thought he could've got a week for that karate kick, but no, he's a very dangerous player.
"He's a playmaker, but they've probably got seven match-winners, and their ability to turn it on in short spurts is also pretty good as well, so it's going to have to be a four-quarter effort."
West Coast is facing a daunting task heading to Sydney to take on the second-placed Giants, who are fighting to host a qualifying final.
The Eagles are in a life-or-death scrap to hang onto a spot in the top eight and have the toughest run home of any side, with League leaders Adelaide to come in round 23.
GWS' midfield dominated clearances (54-31) and inside 50s (56-43) last time the teams met and the Giants' speed is a major worry for West Coast.
"They're No.1 in the comp at stoppages, scores from stoppages, pressure pre-clearance, so they're in a good space," Simpson said.
"That's been a challenge for us all year to get the right combination and deliver for four quarters.
"We're going to have to pull out something special this week in that area."
Simpson hinted forward Mark LeCras (hamstring) wouldn't return for the clash but tall backman Tom Barrass (groin) is expected to be available.
LeCras' likely absence puts more pressure on star spearhead Josh Kennedy, who kept the Eagles' finals hopes alive with six majors against Carlton last round.
Kennedy has kicked 26 goals in the past five games to return to the Coleman Medal lead and is certain to attract plenty of Giants attention.
"We've got to make sure all of our entries aren't directed towards him. I've said this before, we need a good balance of contributors, but they need supply as well," Simpson said.
"Sometimes we overdo it with JK, and sometimes we miss him.
"I think (Jack) Darling's presence has been elevated in the last five or six weeks as well, despite the fact that JK has hit the scoreboard.
"We've mixed it up a little bit, along with Drew (Petrie). Trying to find that extra small forward is a challenge for us as well, so we're looking for that without Lecca."
Simpson was tempted to throw Willie Rioli into the AFL side after he booted four goals for East Perth but conceded the exciting goalsneak wasn't yet match-fit after repeat hamstring setbacks.
The Eagles coach also declared the result of Saturday's match wouldn't determine whether Nic Naitanui continues with his push to return this season from an ACL reconstruction.
