A SECOND vacancy has opened up on the Richmond board after Rex Chadwick resigned due to ill health after serving seven years as a director.
It comes in the wake of former captain Tony Free stepping down last November after spending eight years as director. He cited a greater workload outside of football as the reason for quitting the role.
The 'Focus on Footy' group attempted a takeover last year but its bid was abandoned in September.
Incumbent directors Kerry Ryan and Emmett Dunne were re-elected for new three-year terms in last December's elections.
Directors grilled at fiery Richmond AGM
Richmond's nominations committee will interview potential candidates and make a recommendation to the board to fill the two empty positions.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the board and am grateful for the support of the members and the opportunity to serve them," Chadwick told richmondfc.com.au.
"Ultimately I didn't think staying on the board was in the club's best interests, given some health issues I have been dealing with.
"I would like to thank my fellow board members, and the club's management and staff, for their support. This club is in very good hands.
"I will always be an avid Richmond supporter and will remain a Jack’s Club coterie member. I look forward to seeing our members and supporters at the football in the future."
Richmond president Peggy O'Neal paid tribute to Chadwick's stint at the Tigers.
"Rex has been an important contributor to the board during his time and, on behalf of the members, I sincerely thank him for everything he has done for the club," O'Neal said.
"He has always put Richmond first and his decision to stand down – and the reasons behind it – are yet another example of his selflessness."
