HER FATHER captained Port Adelaide and now dual Olympic Games basketballer Erin Phillips will lead cross-town rivals, Adelaide.

Phillips will share captaincy duties with marquee signing Chelsea Randall for the inaugural season of the NAB AFL Women's competition.

NT-based pair Sally Riley and Angela Foley are the team's two vice-captains and will lead the players who are based in Darwin.

The four players were nominated in a leadership session held during the team's training camp this weekend in Darwin.

Adelaide went down to Fremantle by 22 points in an historic practice match on Saturday night.

The Dockers took advantage of an inaccurate Crows outfit at TIO Stadium, 8.10 (58) to 4.12 (36).

Phillips, 31, has made an immediate impression at the Crows in her first season playing competitive football.

"It’s an absolute honour to be able to lead the team in our first season," she said.  

"I was thrilled just to be given the opportunity to play professional football and now to be named as a leader at the club – I’m blown away.

"My dad (Greg) was captain of his team during his playing days and he used to say what an privilege it was, so it's extremely special to be able to follow in his footsteps."

Greg Phillips was an eight-time premiership player for Port Adelaide in the SANFL, playing 343 games for the Magpies and captaining the club from 1991-93.

His daughter has carved out a sensational basketball career on the international stage, the tenacious point guard never backing down from a challenge whether she's playing for the Australian Opals or the Dallas Wings in the WNBA.

That competitive nature is exactly what the Crows need as they aim to make an impact in the competition.

Randall has also led from the front.

A three-time All Australian, the 25-year-old has established herself as one of the premier women's footballers in the country.

"I feel absolutely privileged to be named in the team’s inaugural leadership group," she said.

"This team is my new family and I really cannot wait to represent this club."

Crows women’s coach Bec Goddard said she was delighted with the appointments.

"Both Chelsea and Erin are exceptional leaders who are extremely deserving of this appointment – I’m thrilled that they will forever be part of the club’s history," Goddard said.

"Right from the start both Chelsea and Erin have been great role models for all of the players in the squad.

"They are elite in everything they do for the club on and off the field and certainly have the skills to lead the group strongly."

They will get their first chance to lead the Crows in Saturday night's practice game against Fremantle at TIO Stadium in Darwin.
