PORT Adelaide's recent record at the SCG doesn't make for pretty reading, but forward Aaron Young insists the Power is focused on creating its own slice of history.
The Power will need to break an 11-year drought at the home ground of the Swans if they are to get their season off to a winning start on Saturday.
The Power have lost their past seven games at the SCG and 13 of 14 overall against last year's runners-up.
Tough, contested football is at a premium given the ground's dimensions, but it's an area Young believes they are well equipped at.
"The SCG is a much smaller ground so contested ball becomes a big part of the game and that's what Sydney pride themselves on, so we've got to match them in that area," Young said.
"We like to hunt around the contest and the ground should suit us.
"If we can get the ball going our way, we've got some firepower up forward to kick some goals."
The conditions could have an impact, with rain expected to continue in Sydney through the weekend.
"It's raining up there at the moment, but hopefully the forecast is to dry up for Saturday," he said.
"If not, we kind of go back to old-fashioned footy.
"You get the ball going your way and try and put a couple of goals on the board and hold on from there."
Young enjoyed a breakout season last year when he booted 37 goals in 21 games.
But the 24-year-old will play higher up the ground this year and is prepared to sacrifice how many goals he kicks if it's better for the team.
"Last year I probably played a bit more deep in the forward line, so I've moved up the ground a little bit more and then racing back to goal," he said.
"It's a little bit different, a bit harder and with a bit more running.
"We've got a lot of guys in there so we all play the positions and rotate around."
