WESTERN Bulldogs star forward Jake Stringer is confident he has avoided the dreaded anterior cruciate ligament tear in his knee.
The 23-year-old, who had scans on Sunday morning, suffered a right knee injury in a tackle by Richmond midfielder Brandon Ellis midway through the third quarter of Saturday night's five-point win.
Stringer said the medicos were optimistic his injury was not a season-ending ACL, allaying his initial concerns.
"They're pretty confident that it's not (an ACL) so fingers crossed it's not and I can get back (to playing)," Stringer told Channel Seven on Sunday.
"You obviously fear for the worst but I was a bit relieved when they took me down and didn't think it was an ACL, so the relief was there but I've got to wait and see what I've got first."
Stringer immediately clutched his knee after being brought to ground in the tackle, but was able to stand up and walk straight into the rooms for assessment.
"I think it's a medial. Whether it's meniscus or ligament, I couldn't tell you. It could be both," Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said post-match.
Stringer finished the game against Richmond with seven disposals and a goal.
