COLLINGWOOD forward Jamie Elliott had his left ankle scanned on Monday after limping from training.
After hurting his ankle in a drill, the 24-year-old left the track immediately, accompanied by club doctor Chris Bradshaw.
He did not reappear and was later sent for scans to determine the extent of the injury.
The Magpies confirmed late on Monday that the star forward will miss a couple of training sessions due to a minor ankle strain but said there were no major concerns.
Elliott was on crutches after the scans and said missing last year with a back injury did not have him pessimistic about his latest setback.
"It happened pretty quick. When I went for the ball, (a teammate) behind me, he just fell into my leg a little bit. I don't know if I just cramped up but I'll know more from the scan that I just got," Elliott said.
"It feels OK, it doesn't feel like it's anything serious. We might just have to lay off it for a couple of days and see how it pulls up."
Elliott played his first game in 18 months when he played the first half against Essendon on Thursday night.
He has had a solid pre-season after his pars defect injury in 2016, joining in full training in late January as he ramped up his preparation.
Elliott admitted he would shed a tear when he finally returned to action and his skipper Scott Pendlebury said there were genuine concerns whether the dynamic small forward would return to full fitness.
He performed well against the Bombers, reminding everyone of how important he will be to the Magpies chances of making finals in 2017.
Elliott has kicked 104 goals in 72 games and kicked at least 30 goals a season between 2013-2015.

Meanwhile, Magpies defender Ben Sinclair has undergone surgery to repair the hamstring he tore in the third quarter of Thursday's game.
The Magpies are awaiting the results of the surgery before determining how long the 25-year-old will miss.
After showing good form in the early part of last season, he suffered a series of concussions that eventually saw him rested for the final five games of the season.
Sinclair has played 63 games with the Magpies since being drafted in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft.
