North Melbourne v St Kilda, Etihad Stadium, Friday night
There are just three Kangaroos who are averaging more than 90 points a game this year – Jack Ziebell (MID, $14,200), Todd Goldstein (RK, $14,450) and Shaun Higgins (FWD/MID, $12,850) – so they will be your best bets most rounds. Sam Gibson (MID, $12,150) can also score solidly and is a rung cheaper.
Given the lack of premium options in North colours, it might be worthwhile to look at second-tier players from the Roos. Improving scorers such as Luke McDonald (DEF, $11,350) and Trent Dumont (MID, $11,150) are worth consideration. McDonald is averaging 81, while Dumont has hit the 90s three times this year.
St Kilda has far more options. Seb Ross (MID, $15,000) continued his stellar season last week in his side's loss to the Crows with 113 points – his seventh score in triple figures in his past eight games. Teammate Jack Newnes (MID/DEF, $13,000) should also come into your thinking after his 113 points last week pushed his average to 92.5
Dylan Roberton (DEF, $12,950) lowered his colours to score just 78 points – well down on his 103-point average – but Josh Bruce (FWD, $8550) went about 50 per cent better than usual with 90 points, well above his 60-point average. The Saints produce good Draftstars options.
Richmond v Sydney, MCG, Saturday
If you're after a gun Tiger you don't need to look further than Dustin Martin (FWD/MID, $17,200), who we talk about most weeks for a very good reason. His average of 116 points is exceptional. This week you might consider Richmond ruckman Toby Nankervis (RK, $12,150), who comes up against his old side for the first time. Nankervis has been a great pick-up this year, and is averaging 89.
Brandon Ellis (MID/DEF, $13,750) is another Tiger to consider. He's averaged 91 points in his past five games, including back-to-back centuries in the past two. He's in good touch and won't set you back as much as others with that sort of scoring form line.
Isaac Heeney (FWD/MID, $13,400) should be close to top of your list when considering Sydney players. The emerging star of the competition scored 113 points in last week's big win over the Western Bulldogs, and has averaged 99 over the past five weeks. He's in ripping form.
Heeney was one of six Swans to hit triple figures last week, while Tom Papley (FWD, $12,000) and Sam Reid (FWD, $9400) – both with averages in the 70s – were also placed in the 90s after strong games. Jake Lloyd (MID, $12,000) continued his remarkable Draftstars season with 122 points – his seventh score above 100. He's a popular choice for a reason.
Port Adelaide v Brisbane Lions, Adelaide Oval, Saturday
The art of Draftstars is picking the guy who pulls out a blinder. If you chose Justin Westhoff (FWD, $14,000) last week, that was you. The Port Adelaide ruckman had 133 points as his side was whitewashed by Essendon to crack a season-best score. His average over the past five weeks is 97.8, however, so he's in strong form.
Robbie Gray's (FWD/MID, $10,950) average Draftstars season continued with just 78 points last week, and he's a player you should avoid despite his decreased value. But teammate Brad Ebert (MID, $15,400) is averaging 111 for the year and dragged in 115 against the Bombers. He and Ollie Wines (MID, $14,600) are the best Port midfielders on offer.
The Lions finally got another win after steamrolling Fremantle, with Dayne Beams (MID, $17,300) the standout with 145 points. Dayne Zorko (MID, $16,050) and Stefan Martin (RK, $15,050) were also exceptional with sizeable hundreds, while Tom Cutler (DEF, $11,400) picked up 112 points – well above his 75-point average.
Jake Barrett (FWD/MID, $11,700) and Lewis Taylor (FWD/MID, $10,800) also scored in the mid-90s, which is about 29 more than their respective averages. Barrett is a solid option at his pricetag.
Gold Coast v Carlton, Metricon Stadium, Saturday night
There was so much focus last year on who the Suns lost in the trade period, and perhaps not as much on who they brought in. But new recruits Jarryd Lyons (FWD/MID, $13,450) and Jarrod Witts (RK, $13,050) were both terrific last week in Gold Coast's win over Hawthorn, scoring 118 and 115 respectively. Neither have big Draftstars profiles, but they're going well.
Steven May's (DEF, $11,250) marking prowess powered him to 118 points last week – well above his 83-point season average – while Gary Ablett (MID, $17,500) did what he tends to do: dominate. He is in brilliant form, and his 153 points last week lifted his average to 132 over the past five weeks. Wow.
Carlton's Matthew Kreuzer (RK, $15,750) might be the best Draftstars ruck option in the competition right now. He amassed 149 points in last week's shock win over Greater Western Sydney to make his average 118 over the past five weeks.
Sam Docherty (DEF, $16,500) gathered 149 points as he continues to sweep things up across half-back, and only five players in the AFL have scored more than the Blue this season. Caleb Marchbank (DEF, $11,000) scored 87 points last week and has had a promising year. It was his fifth score of 80 or more in his past six matches.
Western Bulldogs v Melbourne, Etihad Stadium, Sunday
The Bulldogs aren't in great form, but Jack Macrae (MID, $13,600) presses on. His 105-point effort against the Swans last week was the best for his side, while Marcus Bontempelli (MID, $14,050) and Luke Dahlhaus (FWD/MID, $12,950) were also valuable picks with scores in the 90s.
Caleb Daniel (FWD, $12,050) is a Dog to keep on the radar. After having a slower start to the season, the premiership forward has averaged 87 points over the past five weeks to be one of the more consistent players for Luke Beveridge in recent times.
We were all in awe of Christian Petracca (FWD/MID, $10,950) last week. The powerful Melbourne star pushed the Dees to victory over Collingwood, and his Draftstars score reflected his performance – he gathered 15 more than his average to finish on 93 points.
Nathan Jones (MID, $15,050) has been scoring well for many seasons and picked up 118 points last week against the Pies. He is often overlooked for some of the superstars in the game, but his numbers make him a must-consider premium choice. Back in Dom Tyson (MID, $13,550) for a better score this week as well, after he dropped to 82 last round.
