Greater Western Sydney v Western Bulldogs, UNSW, Friday night

We're going to play this one using the 'turbo' mode of Draftstars, where coaches have to pick one player from six different categories. There is no salary cap, but each tier is staggered based on the best performers so far this season.

In the first group, we're going to take Giants midfielder Josh Kelly (MID, $14,100). He's in brilliant form – his average over the past three weeks is 109 points – and he'll revel in the Friday night spotlight. Dylan Shiel (MID, $13,900) will be our choice in the second tier given his superior average of 91.8, while Liam Picken (MID, $12,600) gets the nod in the third category. He narrowly nudged Toby Greene (MID/FWD, $12,900) for this spot.

The fourth choice is tough. We weighed up taking Tom Liberatore (MID, $12,000), but his average of 87.6 isn't as appealing as Jeremy Cameron (FWD, $12,050), whose 101.8 average is excellent. Cameron can be prone to a quiet game, but we'll back him against the premiers.

Young Dogs forward Toby McLean (FWD, $11,050) will be our pick of the fifth group, while his premiership teammate Clay Smith (FWD/MID, $10,400) is the choice from the sixth and final category. Smith is averaging 79 points a game this season. 

Hawthorn v St Kilda, Tasmania, Saturday

It was the Hawks as we have come to know them last week, and their improved Draftstars scores showed it. Ruckman Ben McEvoy (RK, $11,550) gathered a team-high 129 points, while recruit Tom Mitchell (MID, $16,050) maintained his sensational average of 123 points with 122 in the Hawks' win over West Coast.

Mitchell has been prolific all season, but two young Hawks also stood up last week, with Tim O'Brien (FWD, $7900) and Ryan Burton (FWD, $9100) both notching scores in the 90s. They're cheaper, younger and more unreliable fantasy options, but might fit into your salary side as one of your last picked.

The unobtrusive Dylan Roberton (DEF, $12,450) continues to lead the way for St Kilda after a 118-point effort last week against Geelong. He is rising in price, but has hit triple figures in three of the past four weeks.

Other Saints you should consider include Jack Steele (FWD/MID, $12,000), who gathered a season-high score of 101 last week and is growing in confidence, and Jack Steven (MID, $14,150), who should be about ready to get back to his best after injury has halted his season so far. He's still averaging a tidy 89.7.

Carlton v Sydney, MCG, Saturday

First tip: be wary choosing Marc Murphy (MID, $16,250). There is still a little fitness cloud over the Carlton skipper, who is averaging 126 points a game this year, so keep that in mind.

Patrick Cripps (MID, $14,350) was the leading Blue in last week's defeat to Port Adelaide, finding 121 points, while Sam Docherty (DEF, $14,850) clocked up his third century in four games. He continues to be a very safe and popular choice in Draftstar backlines. Young Carlton pair Jack Silvagni (FWD, $9350) and Caleb Marchbank (DEF, $7750) provide solid value for their price tag, so may be worth considering to allow you to spend big elsewhere.

The Swans' big names continue to struggle this season, with Lance Franklin (FWD, $13,350), Luke Parker (MID, $14,400), Dan Hannebery (MID, $14,450) and Josh Kennedy (MID, $14,650) all failing to hit 90 last week against the Giants.

Zak Jones (DEF, $10,450) is starting to come into his own across half-back and recorded 91 points, while NAB AFL Rising Star Callum Mills (MID, $10,700) collected 90 points. Sydney should fare better against Carlton, but it's hard to back too many Swans in this type of form.

Brisbane Lions v Port Adelaide, Gabba, Saturday

To those who picked Dayne Zorko (MID, $16,650) last week, we salute you. Your reward was a brilliant 157 points. If you had him, keep him. If you didn't, get him in this week. He's worth the hefty price.

Brisbane hasn't won a game since round one, but its midfield has surely won a few Draftstars coaches matches across the season so far. Ruckman Stefan Martin (RK, $14,600) must be considered with an average of 116.6 so far this year, while Sam Mayes (DEF, $11,000) put in a good game with 105 points last week.

Be careful going with young forward Eric Hipwood (FWD/DEF, $8000), despite his exciting display last week. He has put in some very low scores this season (including 27 and 10), so isn't a sure thing yet to back up his showing this week.

Brad Ebert (MID, $14,200) had a night out against Carlton last week with 149 points, and isn't overly popular among coaches so could be a unique pick. Cheaper choices Sam Gray (FWD/MID, $14,500) and Karl Amon (FWD/MID, $9700) might also be of interest from the Power after reaching triple figures last round.

North Melbourne v Gold Coast, Etihad Stadium, Saturday night

The Roos' younger brigade led the charge last week in their nail-biting loss to Fremantle, as Trent Dumont (MID, $11,750) and Luke McDonald (DEF, $10,050) top-scored with 96 points each. Jamie MacMillan (DEF, $10,550) was also solid with 95 points, but has averaged 70 for the season, so it seems an outlier.

Mason Wood (FWD/MID, $10,500) is one to keep an eye on. In his first game of the season after injury delayed his start, the exciting forward picked up 75 points against the Dockers.

It was Gold Coast's senior players who starred last week, as new pick-up Michael Barlow (FWD/MID, $14,300) collected a season-high 127 points to boost his average to 90 for the year. Gary Ablett (MID, $15,500) continued his form resurgence with 118 points, and Jarryd Lyons' (FWD/MID, $13,350) ability to find the footy en masse shows no signs of slowing after 102 points to keep his average at 93.

Jarrod Witts (RK, $9950) had a quieter performance last week as he found just 66 points, but the former Collingwood ruckman has averaged 85 points in his first season at Gold Coast. He would be a solid option in the ruck position.

West Coast v Fremantle, Domain Stadium, Saturday night

Will Sam Mitchell (MID, $13,500) line up in his first derby? There's still some doubt on the ex-Hawthorn champ, so pick at your own risk. There's not much risk around Luke Shuey (MID, $15,350), however. The star midfielder is averaging 117 points a game this year in what might be the most brilliant beginning he's made to a season in his career.

Shuey was one of the only Eagles to fire a shot last week against Hawthorn. Elliot Yeo had a blip last week with just 73 points, well down on his 99-point average.

In his 250th game Aaron Sandilands (RK, $11,800) would be a nice ruck selection. He has averaged 85 this season, but is coming up against a weaker West Coast ruck division. Bradley Hill (MID, $11,750) has been excellent since round one, averaging 96 in the past four weeks. He's coming into his own and will be keen for a good derby debut.

For a value pick you might want to look at Harley Balic (FWD/MID, $6600). The Freo youngster has averaged 54 in his first two games – not much, but his low cost could help you pick a premium player elsewhere. 

Essendon v Melbourne, Etihad Stadium, Sunday

Zach Merrett (MID, $17,050) is back at the top of the Draftstars table as the competition's leading scorer. The star Bombers midfielder's 137-point effort on Anzac Day was the fourth time this year he has scored 129 points or more. He is a sensational player and worth every dollar.

Fellow Essendon midfielders Brendon Goddard (MID, $14,800) and Dyson Heppell (MID, $14,000) were slightly down on their 100-plus averages last week but are good choices, while Michael Hurley (DEF, $11,150) had his best game of the season with 94 points.

The Bombers will have to monitor the run of Jayden Hunt (FWD, $12,100), who picked up a team-high 102 points last week. Former Bomber Michael Hibberd (DEF, $11,850) was also excellent in the Dees' loss to Richmond, finding 97 points off half-back.

Cameron Pedersen (FWD, $8500) is set to spend a fair portion of time in the ruck for the Dees, up against Tom Bellchambers (RK, $8050) in both of the players' first games of the season. Both are relatively well priced, but would be risky picks.

Geelong v Collingwood, MCG, Sunday

We bow to you, Joel Selwood (MID, $16,450). The Geelong skipper's phenomenal 175-point outing last week was perhaps the best individual game of the season so far, and would have rocketed most of his owners to Draftstars wins in round five.

He was one of five Geelong players to score 115 or more in their win over St Kilda, including Mark Blicavs (MID/RK, $12,450) with his best effort of the year. Most surprising was the 100-point score from Aaron Black (FWD, $8450) on debut for the Cats. He was a popular choice for coaches given his lowly cost, and it turned out well.

You can almost pencil in a strong response from Scott Pendlebury (MID, $14,650) this week after his uncharacteristically low total on Anzac Day (70 points). His midfield teammate Adam Treloar (MID, $16,600) was far better with 144 points, as the former Giant builds his 124.6 point average.

To those who were brave enough to pick Daniel Wells (FWD/MID, $13,350) last week for his first game in Collingwood colours, well played. The former Kangaroo was excellent with 96 points in his white and black debut. We suspect a few more will grab him this round.  

Adelaide v Richmond, Adelaide Oval, Sunday

Rory Sloane's (MID, $16,650) form shows no sign of dipping with another 132-point haul last round, which has him placed at No.3 in the competition for total points. But it was the first game of Brad Crouch (MID, $14,600) which was most exciting for Draftstars coaches, with the speedy midfielder pulling in 119 points in the Crows' win over Gold Coast last week.

His brother Matt Crouch (MID, $14,150) pieced together another excellent game with 118 points, while Curtly Hampton (DEF, $9200) notched his first 100 of the year with 119 points. He's had an up-and-down season though for scores, so be careful choosing him.

Jack Riewoldt (FWD, $12,200) was the hero last week, but not in Draftstars terms. His six-goal, match-winning effort produced just 84 points. No, the real Richmond Draftstars hero was Toby Nankervis (FWD/RK, $11,950).

The former Swan gathered a team-high 131 points against Melbourne, lifting his average to 90.6 for the season in what is looming as a breakout year for him. He's one of the most popular choices for coaches, and it is easy to see why.
