FORMER St Kilda and Sydney forward Adam Schneider has been named Greater Western Sydney's new NEAFL coach.
Schneider, who was part of the Swans' drought-breaking premiership side in 2005 before joining the Saints, played 228 games across 13 seasons before retiring in 2015.
The 33-year old coached Beaumaris in the VAFA premier division this year, and takes over the Giants' reserves role from Brad Miller, who will be in charge of the club's forward line as an assistant coach in 2018.
GWS football manager Wayne Campbell said Schneider was a welcome addition to the club's coaching staff under Leon Cameron.
"Adam has a sharp footy brain and a real passion for the game," he said.
"Having grown up in Wagga Wagga and having lived in Sydney during his playing career, Adam understands the challenges and opportunities for the Giants and we think he'll be a good fit for our club."
Schneider joins his Sydney premiership teammate Amon Buchanan at the Giants.
"The Giants are a club I've admired from a distance and I'm excited to join the coaching group working under Leon Cameron," he said.
"There are a number of impressive young players on the list that I believe I can help develop and prepare for the rigours of playing in the AFL."
With Miller taking control of the GWS forwards, Buchanan will take over the stoppages role left vacant by the now departed Dean Brogan.
The Giants' NEAFL side won just two games in 2017 with the club's crippling injury toll meaning the reserves took the field with as little as five AFL-listed players some weeks.
