Adelaide v Geelong, Adelaide Oval, Friday night
The Crows' forwards took the spotlight last week against Melbourne, with Tom Lynch (FWD, $14,250) and Taylor Walker (FWD, $11,950) the best scorers. Lynch's 130-point effort was a reminder of his ability to hit some high scores, and Walker has been in good form, averaging 89 the past three weeks.
Once again the Crouch brothers – Matt (MID, $14,300) and Brad (MID, $15,450) – both hit triple figures, while Sam Jacobs' good run as a ruck option continued with 97 points. His average of 98.9 makes him one of the most appealing big men around.
With Patrick Dangerfield (MID, $18,550) in doubt with his ankle injury, we're going to suggest you choose another star Cats midfielder. Mitch Duncan (MID, $14,700) scored 99 points last week against Hawthorn, in what was something of a 'down' week for him given his average sits at 113 points a game.
Zach Tuohy's (DEF, $11,000) form has dropped of late, and with three scores of 76 or fewer in the past three weeks, his average has dipped to 89. He isn't in his early season form, so be careful grabbing him expecting a triple-figure finish.
Essendon v North Melbourne, Etihad Stadium, Saturday
Essendon is becoming an exciting team for Draftstars coaches with plenty of starring options, led by Zach Merrett (MID, $15,700), who last week gathered 144 points. Only three players in the competition have scored more points than the young Bomber, and he does as he pleases most weeks.
David Zaharakis' (MID, $13,750) run of form continued with his fourth century in five weeks, Michael Hurley (DEF, $14,000) has proven he can find the ball at half-back, and James Kelly (MID, $13,450) pulled out a season-best score of 138 points as he defies age to continue his form.
The tip for this game is to load up on Bombers, unless Ben Cunnington (MID, $13,200) takes your eye as the best-performing Kangaroo from last week. The midfielder scored 128 points, and his average over the past five games is a more-than-handy 92.6 points.
Kangaroos youngster Luke McDonald (DEF, $11,600) has had an encouraging year and scored 100 points against Port Adelaide, while Shaun Higgins (FWD/MID, $12,700) gathered 99 to keep up his strong average of 92. But there isn't heaps to like from a Draftstars perspective from the Roos, and there hasn't been for most of the year.
Melbourne v Port Adelaide, MCG, Saturday
Alex Neal-Bullen (FWD/MID, $9750) continues to prove his credentials as a solid Draftstars option from the Dees, scoring 95 points in last week's loss to Adelaide in Darwin. It followed his 92-point effort in round 16 against the Blues, and he would give your side a point of difference if he can reproduce another score of similar ilk.
Melbourne's top scorers last week contained some surprises. Jayden Hunt (FWD, $9250) picked up 111 points, well above his 70-point average, while Jay Kennedy-Harris (FWD, $8350) reached 102 points despite averaging only 60 across the season. Both can do damage on their day, but it would be hard to trust them to back it up against Port.
Chad Wingard (FWD/MID, $14,650) has had an exceptional year, and has turned into a consistent and prolific Draftstars scorer. He picked up 136 points last week, is averaging 105 in the past five weeks, and 94 for the year.
Ollie Wines (MID, $14,950) and Brad Ebert (MID, $14,150) have been the Power's best scorers this season and last week both hit triple-figures against North Melbourne, while first-year midfielder Sam Powell-Pepper (MID, $12,250) reached the 100-point mark for the first time in his debut season. He's averaging 73.
Western Bulldogs v Gold Coast, Cazaly's Stadium, Saturday
Where some teammates have fallen away this season, Jack Macrae (MID, $15,900) has been one of few Dogs to keep up their standards in 2017. The midfielder gathered 123 points last week against Carlton, which was his eighth century this season. He's averaging 102 points for the season and nearly 110 over the past five rounds.
Toby McLean (FWD, $13,450) has made an impact for the Dogs in the midfield since moving in there, and last week collected 107 points, his third score above 100 in his past four matches. He would be a unique addition as one of your last picks. Luke Dahlhaus (FWD/MID, $12,850) has also maintained his form with an average of 92 this year.
For the Suns, Jarrod Witts' (RK, $12,900) claims as one of the in-form rucks in the competition continued with 105 points against former side Collingwood last week, while Michael Rischitelli (MID, $11,250) returned for his first game in a year and scored 77 points. It's hard to know what he'll produce second week back, but keep an eye on his form.
Sydney v St Kilda, SCG, Saturday night
Dan Hannebery (MID, $13,300) has been a hard player to choose in Draftstars this year, with mixed form across the season. He had a brilliant patch in the middle of the year, and got back to that high-scoring best with 112 points in last week's win over Greater Western Sydney. But his average of the past five weeks is only 83, so be wary.
We've been on the Tom Papley (FWD, $11,950) train for a while, and the second-year Swan continues to perform, gathering 84 points last week, while Lance Franklin (FWD, $14,400) remains a forward who should be in consideration every week if you can afford him. Last week was his third consecutive century.
Dylan Roberton (DEF, $11,800) was among St Kilda's best in an underwhelming showing last week, scoring 105 points against Essendon. Jack Steven (MID, $14,450) was also terrific after posting 109 points, while Jake Carlisle (FWD/DEF, $9500) performed well above his 60-point average to score 98 against his former side.
Keep the faith with Seb Ross (MID, $14,200). Before Friday night, the Saints midfielder had reached triple figures in six of his seven most recent games. His lowly 71 points last week was his worst score since his 42-point effort in round one, so he's earned some credits.
Fremantle v Hawthorn, Domain Stadium, Saturday night
There wasn't heaps to love about the Dockers in last week's derby loss, but Connor Blakely (MID, $14,750) was a positive. We'll call it now: he will be a first-choice midfielder in Draftstars next year. Blakely picked up a season-high 149 points last week against the Eagles, his third ton from his past three games.
Lachie Neale (MID, $16,600) and Bradley Hill (MID, $14,050) again reached their benchmark of 100-plus, while Sean Darcy (RK, $12,000) continued his brilliant start to his AFL (and Draftstars) career with 81 points. The young ruckman is averaging 89 from four games, and should be considered strongly as your ruck pick.
Star Hawks recruit Tom Mitchell (MID, $18,250) looked set for an enormous day last week against the Cats when he had gathered 19 disposals in the first quarter. He finished with 147 points – second only in his games this season to his 177-point belter in round nine.
Most of the other reliable Hawks were a little down last week, apart from Liam Shiels (MID, $13,350), who scored 122, and Isaac Smith (MID, $11,950) who met his season average with 87 points. Youngster Daniel Howe (DEF, $11,650) also collected 105 points to show he can score quite well; he's averaged 94 over the past three rounds.
Richmond v Greater Western Sydney, MCG, Sunday
After struggling in round 16, Dustin Martin (FWD/MID, $16,000) and Trent Cotchin (MID, $14,350) hit back in fine style last week against the Lions. Martin recorded 131 points – his equal-best total since round 10 – and Cotchin was also terrific with 114. Thanks for the strong response, fellas.
Toby Nankervis (FWD/RK, $12,100) has dropped away a little since his excellent start to the year, and has averaged 77 over the past five weeks. However, Tigers spearhead Jack Riewoldt (FWD, $10,600) scored 91 last week, and Brandon Ellis' (MID/DEF, $13,400) 94-point total make this pair appealing options.
Greater Western Sydney isn’t short on midfield options for you. Dylan Shiel (MID, $14,150), Josh Kelly (MID, $15,050), Lachie Whitfield (MID, $13,800) and Tom Scully (MID, $12,650) all scored above 90 last week, and we keep saying that Whitfield (averaging 103) gives your side a point of difference.
Jonathon Patton (FWD, $11,800) has averaged 105 over the past four weeks and is one of the in-form forwards of the competition, so should attract your eye from a Giants perspective. Youngster Harry Perryman (MID/DEF, $8350) gathered 89 points in clearly the best game of his short career.
Collingwood v West Coast, Etihad Stadium, Sunday
Are you ready to take a risk? Two of Jordan De Goey's (FWD/MID, $11,100) past games have seen him notch scores above 100. They've been excellent showings and highlighted his talents. In between, he scored 39 against Essendon in a big drop. Can you trust him? It's risk vs. reward.
There's little risk in choosing Steele Sidebottom (MID, $15,550), who saluted with another score in triple figures last week, while Adam Treloar (MID, $14,150) struck back with 101 points after a poor showing the previous week. Brodie Grundy (RK, $13,800) has dipped a little in recent weeks, however, averaging 84 over the past three games (down on his 105 season average).
Of the three highest scoring Eagles last week – Shannon Hurn (DEF, $10,000), Liam Duggan (FWD/MID, $11,000) and Jack Redden (MID, $12,150) – none average more than 77. It's hard to pick them this week expecting a similar showing to last week's brilliant efforts.
We tend to chase reliability in Draftstars, so Andrew Gaff's (MID, $14,800) average of 108 and most recent score of 114 against the Dockers last week makes him a safer, if more expensive, bet. Emerging midfielder Dom Sheed (FWD/MID, $11,100) is another who should take your fancy, as he lifted his average to 85.
Brisbane Lions v Carlton, Gabba, Sunday
If you missed out on Alex Witherden's (DEF/MID, $11,700) first month, you can't blame a lack of warning. We tipped the young Brisbane Lions defender to be an immediate hit and he has delivered, last week scoring 91 points and having an average of 86 over his first four games.
Dayne Beams (MID, $15,000) scored 95 last week but is playing under some injury duress, so you might want to think carefully before spending your big bucks on him in your midfield. Dayne Zorko (MID, $15,650) almost inexplicably was held to 48 points last week, his second shocker in four weeks. It means he's probably due a big response against Carlton.
The Blues had a couple of lesser-lights hit top form last week, with Jed Lamb (FWD, $8650) and Sam Kerridge (FWD/MID, $12,900) each scoring 95 against the Bulldogs. Lamb averages 62 and Kerridge's average is at 83 this season, so they outperformed for their usual scores.
Sam Docherty (DEF, $16,700) remains the most popular defender in Draftstars given his amazing average of 123 points a game, but Kade Simpson (MID/DEF, $14,850) is cheaper and a very good pick as well. The veteran Blue scored 105 last week and is averaging 101 across the season.
