THE AFL has slapped a $10,000 fine on the Brisbane Lions for an administrative error that saw the club breach the AFL's Total Player Payments lodgment rules during 2017.
Half the fine – $5000 – has been suspended until the end of October 2018, with the club credited for its full co-operation in acknowledging the breach.
AFL investigations manager Ken Wood was satisfied the Lions had advised the AFL of all required information and implemented improved administrative procedures to minimise the risk of another breach occurring.
The Brisbane Lions have pick No.1 in the upcoming NAB AFL Draft and are expected to be active during the trade period with former Hawk Luke Hodge likely to come out of retirement to play with the Lions.
The Lions are also expecting former club captain Tom Rockliff to explore free agency with Port Adelaide the most likely destination although Carlton has expressed interest.
