THE SEASON has ended early for Collingwood midfielder Jordan De Goey after the club revealed he will need surgery to repair a hip flexor strain he sustained on Sunday against Port Adelaide.

The Magpie midfielder spent his 50th game playing under duress as a deep forward after quarter-time against Port Adelaide.

The 21-year-old played just 14 senior games for the season after serving a club-imposed suspension for lying to the club on the eve of round one about the fact he had broken his hand in an altercation at a bar.

Magpies football manager Geoff Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au it was unfortunate for De Goey to be unavailable for the final two rounds against Geelong and Melbourne.

Match preview: Collingwood v Geelong

De Goey had been in good form between rounds 15-20, picking up 32 disposals against Hawthorn in round 15 and kicking four goals against West Coast in round 18.

The Magpies are hopeful Will Hoskin-Elliott will be available to play after he hurt his hip in a marking contest on Sunday.

Hoskin-Elliott was restricted but managed to kick a goal in the third quarter.

Collingwood is also confident Daniel Wells will return from the quad injury he suffered against North Melbourne in round 20 that forced him to miss Sunday's game.

Walsh said if the 32-year-old completes training on Thursday he will be selected.

The injury means De Goey joins Magpies skipper Scott Pendlebury, midfielder Levi Greenwood and running defenders Travis Varcoe and Ben Sinclair as players Collingwood has ruled out for the rest of 2017.
