CALLUM Ah Chee has been traded to the Brisbane Lions after four injury-riddled seasons with Gold Coast.

The talented half-back managed just one game for the Suns in 2019, taking his career tally to 45 games in four seasons.

The deal saw the Lions hand over a future second-round selection and a future fourth-round selection.

After having one of the shortest injury lists in the competition in 2019, the Lions will be hoping their medical team will be able to get the best out of Ah Chee, as well as free agency coup Grant Birchall.

The Lions have been vocal in their plans to cover the loss of Luke Hodge off half-back, but Brisbane's GM of footy David Noble joked at the start of the Telstra AFL Trade Period that the Lions wouldn't be able to replace Hodge's speed.

Noble backed up that sentiment on Wednesday, saying Ah Chee fitted well with the club's needs.

"Cal is fast and smart with his ball use, some skills we were after at Trade Period," Noble told lions.com.au. 

"He is competitive around the ball and can take a strong mark.

"We are really excited to secure a young talent like Cal, who is bolstered by plenty of AFL experience."

The new recruit is well known for his brilliant vertical leap, taking plenty of hangers over the course of his career.

Ah Chee has shown versatility in his time with the Suns, playing across half-forward, half-back and the wing.
