AT THE end of an injury-riddled year, Dan Hannebery will have surgery after suffering a fracture in his right foot.

The club said in a statement Hannebery rolled his right ankle "in an innocuous incident involving outdoor steps at his sister’s house in Perth this week".

The 28-year-old will have an operation on Monday to have a pin inserted.

It will be six weeks before he can start running.

The club's senior players are due back at training on November 18.

KEY DATES What's coming up next in the off-season?

Football manager Simon Lethlean told saints.com.au Hannebery's program wouldn't be impacted too much, considering the triple All Australian was going to be managed anyway after ongoing soft-tissue problems.

"It's never a good time to suffer an injury but given Dan's recovery will predominantly take place while on leave, we don't expect his pre-season to be impacted greatly," Lethlean said.

"Our team of physios and strength and conditioning guys were keen to manage Dan's workload prior to the Christmas break, and their program will now be pushed back two-to-three weeks.

"He should be running at the start of December and training with the main group shortly after."

Hannebery lined up in five games this year, including the final three of the season, picking up 23, 24 and 28 disposals in those matches, while booting three goals in that stretch.

He will join Jack Steele (knee), Nick Coffield (shoulder), Matthew Parker (ankle), Nick Hind (wrist) and Ben Long (wrist) in the rehab group.
