DASHING defender Darcy Byrne-Jones headlines a group of six Port Adelaide players to ink new deals with the club.
Byrne-Jones, who played all 22 games this season for the Power, was already contracted for next year, but signed a three-year extension to tie him to the club until 2023.
Taken at pick 52 in the 2013 NAB AFL National Draft, the 24-year-old finished runner-up to Travis Boak for this year’s John Cahill Medal after a career-best year where he averaged 22.4 disposals - up from his career average of 17.
Byrne-Jones joins veteran Justin Westhoff, defender Trent McKenzie, untried duo Martin Frederick and Tobin Cox, and mid-season rookie Cam Sutcliffe.
Westhoff, who just turned 33, has played 268 games since making his debut in 2007, including 20 in 2019.
"Justin is a unique player because of his versatility and experience," general manager of football Chris Davies said.
"That he remains physically able to compete at the age of 33 is a credit to the way he has prepared and dedicated himself to his football.
"Justin is a highly-rated teammate and a fantastic person to have around the club and we’re thrilled to have him remain at Alberton for season 2020."
Former Docker Sutcliffe played five games this year after he was thrown a lifeline by the Power in the mid-season rookie draft.
McKenzie has managed just two games in two seasons since crossing over from Gold Coast, but has earned a new deal.
Cox will remain on the list as a rookie, while Frederick retains his Category B rookie status.
Ruckman Peter Ladhams and defender Jarrod Lienert have been upgraded off the rookie list onto the primary list.
