TRIPLE premiership Hawk Paul Puopolo will have the chance to hit the 200-game milestone after signing on for 2020.

His future had been up in the air, depending on how the Telstra AFL Trade Period panned out for Hawthorn.

The club added talls Jonathon Patton and Sam Frost to the list, and Ryan Schoenmakers joined Tim Mohr in retiring, while Kaiden Brand, David Mirra, Darren Minchington and Teia Miles were delisted.

Football manager Graham Wright told hawthornfc.com.au the club and player knew how things sat for Puopolo, who has lined up in 190 matches and turns 32 in December.

”We've had open conversations with Paul and his management throughout the trade period, and all parties understood a few things still needed to play out before a decision could be made," Wright said.

"We're really pleased that we're able to retain Paul's services for at least another year.

"He's a champion of our football club and still has plenty of good football left in him.

"His on-field work rate is exemplary and we know he'll continue to set an extremely high standard for both himself and his teammates."

Puopolo lined up in every game this year and booted 10 goals, his lowest tally since 2011, when he managed eight while spending plenty of time down back.

His pressure has long been a strength and Puopolo was ranked No.4 in tackles inside 50 per game this year.
