EDDIE Betts will finish his brilliant career at Carlton after Adelaide traded the much-loved small forward back to his former club.

The Blues secured the 32-year-old's return after sending a future fourth-round pick to the Crows, who are in the midst of a list rejuvenation. 

He completed a medical at Box Hill on Monday, while media were camped outside Ikon Park expecting his arrival.

 

Betts signed a one-year deal at Carlton, with Adelaide to pay a portion of his wages.

"We'll be paying a portion of that," Crows list boss Justin Reid said.

"A lot of clubs work through those arrangements, so in good faith we'll work through it."

 

 

Betts said David Teague's appointment as Carlton senior coach was a "really big pull" for his decision to return to the Blues.

"He's part of it ... I think I played my best footy under David Teague when he was our forward line coach (at Adelaide)," Betts said.

"I just can't wait to reconnect and see what he's like as a senior coach."

Betts is bullish about what Carlton can achieve and hopes they can get trades for Gold Coast's Jack Martin and Sydney small forward Tom Papley.

He added he would put in a call to Martin, with Wednesday's trade deadline looming.

"We have an exciting young group. Just looking at the boys now, the young tall forward down there, if the trade period goes the right way in Carlton's hands they could another two small forwards in Tom Papley and Jack Martin," he said.

"I can probably get Jack Martin done, but I don't know about Papley.

"I will give Jack a call and see what he thinks, but hopefully both of them can come."

Betts spent six years at Adelaide and leaves as a four-time leading goalkicker and three-time All Australian to end his career in navy blue.

He was dropped for the first time in his Crows career this season, when he kicked 37 goals – including a dozen in two clashes with wooden spoon winner Gold Coast – in his 21 appearances.

Betts was contracted for 2020 but his departure is set to hand more responsibility to ex-Tiger Tyson Stengle and mature-age recruit Shane McAdam under a new coach at Adelaide.

The brilliant forward kicked 310 majors for the Crows in 132 games.
