YOUNG forward Mitch Lewis and rebounding defender Jarman Impey have both extended their contracts at Hawthorn in a big 24 hours for the club.

Lewis was rewarded for a breakout 2019 with a new deal keeping him a Hawk until the end of 2022, while Impey has been given "long-term" security despite being just three months into rehabilitation after rupturing his ACL.

The 24-year-old former Port Adelaide player was already contracted for 2020.

Lewis was one of the good news stories for Hawthorn last season, taking a big step forward in his third year at the club, playing 12 games, kicking 20 goals and taking more than two contested marks a game.

He won a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination for his three-goal haul against Geelong in round 18, and was named Hawthorn's Most Promising Player at the Peter Crimmins Medal ceremony.

General manager of football Graham Wright said the extension was reward for Lewis' development over the past 12 months.

"He is part of the next generation coming through our ranks - we're hopeful he'll hold down a key post in our forward line for some time to come," Wright said.

"We're looking forward to seeing what he can produce in 2020."

Lewis is about to start his fourth pre-season, having been drafted with pick 76 in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft. He had a year to run on his previous contract.

Impey's contract is just reward for a fine second season at the Hawks before his injury.

"We’re really pleased to have Jarman re-commit for the long-term," Wright said.

"He’s such a valuable player for us. In 2019, he really developed his game on field but also developed his leadership off it.

"We’re all looking forward to seeing him back out on the park in the latter half of next year."
