INJURY-CURSED former Bulldog Lukas Webb is eyeing a second AFL chance with Carlton.

The 23-year-old midfielder has accepted an offer to train with the Blues leading up to the national, pre-season and rookie drafts.

Webb fractured his neck in a VFL game mid-2018 – but didn't find out until after playing the match out – then suffered a broken fibula and syndesmosis damage to an ankle at training this year.

He missed almost three months with that latest setback but returned late in the season to win 30 or more disposals three times in his last five appearances.

However, the Bulldogs parted ways with Webb after 24 games in five seasons.

Carlton is already set to land former Sun Jack Martin in the pre-season draft, and has a recent history of offering opportunities to players they invite to training.

Cameron O'Shea, Matt Shaw, Tom Bugg and Hugh Goddard turned their training chances into list spots at the Blues in the past two years.

Joining Webb at Carlton's pre-season training is mid-season draftee Josh Deluca, who was promised that opportunity after they cut him post-season.

Meanwhile, ex-Blue Angus Schumacher is training with St Kilda and former Power forward Aidyn Johnson is one of five players joining in at Sydney in the hope of an AFL lifeline.

The others are Sydney University midfielder and this year's NEAFL most valuable player Jake Bartholomaeus, Ollie Florent's younger brother Jai Florent, Werribee's Ryan Hebron and delisted Swan Jack Maibaum.

Hebron, who had some interest from the Giants for this year's NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, is an ex-Sydney Academy member who played in the VFL in 2019 after making the NEAFL team of the year in 2018.

The Saints are also trialling Next Generation Academy prospect Bigoa Nyuon, while Adelaide is taking a closer look at SANFL development squad member James Mathews.

Hugh Dixon and Tom North (Fremantle), Josh Schoenfeld (Gold Coast), Darren Minchington (Hawthorn) and Tom McKenzie (North Melbourne) are training with the clubs that delisted them.
