PREMIERSHIP ambitions will drive Collingwood's marquee forward Moana Hope to bag her first goal as fast as possible at Seaford on Sunday.
Sitting on 99 goals, the St Kilda Sharks sharpshooter admits a win is far more important than reaching what would be a historic century in the last round of the VFL women's league.
The third-placed Sharks can grab second position on the ladder and the crucial finals double chance by beating Seaford, assuming undefeated ladder-leaders Darebin Falcons down second-placed Melbourne University later that afternoon.
"I just want to go get that goal out of the way. Then we must get the score on the board so we come away with the points we need," said Hope, expected to be one of the faces of the AFL’s women’s league starting next February.
"It's only at the end of the game that I'll be able to embrace it (milestone) if it happens. We just want to get the win and make sure we give ourselves the chance to get to second (place) for the finals."
Hope said Sharks coach Shaun Smith would ensure her teammates were not distracted by the approaching 100 that, barring a mishap, should be achieved in the opening quarter against the seventh-placed team.
"Shaun is really good with that aspect. He has it all set out on the board when we have our team meetings," she said.
"If we play to our strengths, the 100 will come fairly quick anyway. I'm definitely not going out thinking of kicking that one goal.
"I need to concentrate on playing my role, make sure I take my chances and finish off everyone else's good work.
"The hundred is a team thing. It would be amazing for our team to have someone kick 100 goals and I'm well aware I'm so reliant on so many of my teammates."
Hope set up a shot at the goalkicking milestone with 10 goals in each of the past two rounds against lower teams Knox and Cranbourne.
Although she wants to reach the mark before the finals, she denies nerves contributed to a couple of missed chances for that elusive extra goal in the final quarter last Sunday.
"One was a set shot from the boundary, a drop punt that hit the post, and another was on the run under pressure. They weren't easy goals," she said.
