BRISBANE Lions captain Tom Rockliff is in serious doubt for Sunday's match against Geelong, after suffering a calf strain in the weekend's loss to North Melbourne.

Vice-captain Daniel Rich (hamstring) and hard-nut midfielder Mitch Robinson (calf) are also in danger of missing against the Cats.

But in better news for the Lions, star midfielder Dayne Beams is making a rapid recovery from knee tendinitis and could be back as soon as round four to take on Gold Coast.

Less than two weeks ago, Lions coach Justin Leppitsch was concerned Beams could miss up to half a season, but the reigning best and fairest winner is training strongly.

Of more immediate concern though is the likely midfield to play Geelong.

Rockliff and Rich had scans on Monday after sitting out the final quarter against the Kangaroos, with both being cleared of any major damage.

The skipper seems in the most strife though, with Lions football manager Matthew Francis saying he was doubtful to take on the Cats.

"He's been scanned and it's nothing major, but it's doubtful he'll get up for this week," Francis told AFL.com.au.

"We've got an eight-day break and it's early in the week, so we don't want to rule him out yet."

Rich, who was kept to a career-low seven disposals by North Melbourne tagger Ben Jacobs is "questionable" after straining his hamstring.

Robinson sustained his injury in round one against West Coast and didn't play at the weekend and is still no certainty to play the Cats.

Beams is a ray of sunshine though, with Francis saying he would be touch-and-go to play the Suns if there was no more hiccups.

Failing that, the 26-year-old should be back in either round five or round six.

"He's taking his rehabilitation to another level," Francis said. "He's been outstanding with his work rate.

"We're going to be very conservative though."
