WEST Coast has boosted its rucks stocks after securing Nathan Vardy from Geelong.
Vardy has been traded to the Eagles in exchange for pick No.72 in this year's national draft.
Vardy had been one of the main targets for the Eagles after casting a wide net in search of ruckmen to fill the void left by Nic Naitanui following his knee reconstruction.
The 25-year-old travelled to Perth last week to do a medical check with the Eagles.
The club initially had some concerns, but were eventually comfortable that Vardy's body was in good shape.
Vardy said he was delighted to continue his AFL career at the Eagles.
"It's really exciting, I'm really happy to finally get it done," Vardy told the Eagles' website.
"More than anything, it's about a fresh start at a great club like the Eagles.
"Along with the exciting list, being able to work with Dean Cox and learn from him and the Eagles' ruckmen in the future was a huge factor in my decision.
"I would also like to Geelong for making my AFL dream come true and for their support over the years. I wish them nothing but the best in the future."
Eagles football manager Craig Vozzo said Vardy was the right fit as a player that can play both ruck and key forward.
"Coming into the trade period we identified that we needed to add to our ruck stocks," Vozzo said.
"Nathan has the ability to play both in the ruck and up forward, something we've stated as a key attribute in our search,” Vozzo said.
"At age 25, we feel Nathan's best football is ahead of him and we're excited with what he can potentially bring to our list."
Vardy only played one senior game for Geelong last season and has played just 25 in total for Cats since he was recruited with pick No.42 in the 2009.
The Eagles are set to be without Naitanui for the majority of 2017 as he recovers from his ACL injury.
Scott Lycett will have a slow summer after having surgery on a posterior cruciate injury but the Eagles are confident he will be available to play early in the year.
Vardy adds some ruck depth alongside Jonathan Giles and his move west means that 316-game veteran Drew Petrie appears unlikely to be recruited by the Eagles, despite being keen to continue his career in Perth.
