FORMER Melbourne co-captain Jack Grimes has been delisted after 100 games in the red and blue.

The Demons also announced on Tuesday that Matt Jones and Dean Terlich will not be offered contracts for 2017, after limited senior appearances this season. 

Grimes, who served as captain of the club alongside Jack Trengove from 2012-2014, managed just two senior games in 2016.

Despite being disappointed at being overlooked for selection for the majority of the year, the 27-year-old continued to win a pile of the footy in the VFL and eventually pushed his way into the senior team. 

Melbourne football manger Josh Mahoney said the club never questioned Grimes' attitude throughout the season.

"Jack Grimes is a man of great integrity and this was a tough decision for everyone involved," Mahoney said.

"He had captained the club and is universally respected for his professional approach to football.

"This was on full display this year in his time with the Casey Scorpions, where he drove standards at VFL level and helped the team reach a Grand Final.

"Jack played 100 games for the club and will become a life member and we wish him well for the next phase of his AFL journey."

Grimes, originally drafted with pick No.14 in the 2007 NAB AFL Draft, is expected to play on should he receive an opportunity from another club as a delisted free agent. 

Jones played 61 games for the Demons in four seasons after being drafted with pick No.52 in the 2012 draft. 

Terlich – drafted with pick No.68 in the 2012 draft, managed 35 games in four years on the list, but failed to play in both 2015 and 2016. 

Terlich finished third and Jones fourth in Melbourne's 2013 best and fairest count, in what was their most productive seasons.
