GARY Ablett is back, completing his first pre-season training session with Gold Coast on Monday.
The Suns skipper has been in the spotlight the past month after news broke of his request to be traded back to Geelong.
Ablett also missed the first week of pre-season training after being granted additional leave to have a delayed honeymoon.
But at the Metricon Stadium training field, he showed no signs of rust, starting his campaign with a 2km time trial alongside Adam Saad.
Ablett's teammates gave their captain plenty of encouragement as he lined up to run, with many players stopping their warm-up to give him a shout.
The 32-year-old – on the comeback trail from a second shoulder surgery – ran strongly before completing a bit of kick-to-kick in a warm-up.
He quickly joined the rehab group and stayed away from any of the contact drills.
Gold Coast's quartet of top-10 NAB AFL Draft picks – Ben Ainsworth, Jack Scrimshaw, Will Brodie and Jack Bowes – were all involved in today's session.
David Swallow continued his strong return from a knee injury, completing the two-hour session.
