PATRICK Dangerfield is on the brink of becoming the fourth No.1 ranked player in the history of the Schick AFL Player Ratings.
The Geelong superstar midfielder needs to score 18.4 points or more against Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday to usurp injured Fremantle star Nat Fyfe as the competition's top player.
Dangerfield has scored more than that total in five of the eight games he has played this season and more than half of the contests he has featured in since the start of 2015.
Against his former side Adelaide on Friday night, Dangerfield scored below 15 points despite racking up 33 disposals and laying 11 tackles.
Schick AFL Player Ratings: Who are your club's leaders?
Dangerfield's highest single-game score came in round 20 last season against Essendon, when, as a Crow, he scored 35.8 points from 27 touches, three goals, six tackles and nine inside 50s.
Fyfe has clung to the No.1 mantle since round 17 last season, but injury has prevented him from keeping pace with the Cats' prized recruit.
The Dockers announced last week that their gun onballer will miss the rest of the season as he recovers from a broken leg sustained in the club's round five loss to Carlton.
Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett, who dropped out of the competition's top 100 last week, and Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury are the others to have reached the top of the Player Ratings.
Fyfe will remain in second spot with the third-placed Robbie Gray to return from a hamstring injury this week. North ruckman Todd Goldstein and Pendlebury round out the top five.
The ranking system was first recorded in 2010 with Ablett holding onto top spot from the start of 2012, when the ratings went live, until round four, 2015.
The ratings are calculated by taking into account a player's last 40 matches over a rolling two-year period.
Dangerfield has made a sizeable impact on the second-placed Cats, ranking No.1 in disposals, contested possessions and inside 50s.
He leads the AFL in inside 50s and is second in the competition for contested possessions.
