THE SYDNEY Swans have not ruled out defender Zak Jones for the season, despite his AFL star brother's worst fears.
However, Jones is unavailable for selection against Adelaide this week.
The 21-year-old defender suffered a serious concussion in the NEAFL Grand Final on Sunday when he was knocked out early in the final quarter.
He was making his way back from an ankle injury and was one of the Swans' better performers against Greater Western Sydney before the incident.
Jones would have been a chance to return to the seniors in this week's semi-final against Adelaide after NAB AFL Rising Star winner Callum Mills hurt his hamstring.
His brother, Melbourne skipper Nathan Jones, told RSN Radio on Tuesday he feared his brother's season might be over.
"It was a pretty significant concussion," Jones said.
"Zak will make a full recovery, but I think that might be his season done."
However the Swans said it was too early to be that definitive and he would assessed if the Sydney Swans progressed beyond this week's semi-final against the Crows.
A club spokesperson told AFL.com.au that Jones would not play until he cleared all medical tests.
The Swans defender was taken from the ground on a stretcher and had to go to hospital to be assessed after the incident.
The NEAFL match review panel handed out a suspension to Giant Jeremy Finlayson, assessing his action as careless, high and high impact.
A previous bad record meant he was handed a four-week suspension, cut to three matches with a guilty plea.
Finlayson, a Giants academy graduate, is yet to play a senior game for GWS after being pick No.85 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.
