SCOTT Thompson looks set to play on with Adelaide in 2017, with the veteran midfielder on the verge of signing a new-one year deal.
The midfielder has held talks with the Crows in the wake of their finals exit last Saturday, and it is understood a new contract is likely to be finalised shortly.
Thompson turns 34 next March but the stoppage specialist remains an important member of Adelaide's on-ball division.
The two-time best and fairest winner averaged 24 possessions a game in 2016 and missed just two games through soreness and management.
He also led the Crows in clearances (5.8 a game), was second in tackles (7.2) and third in contested possessions (10.9).
The Crows also have Jarryd Lyons and free agent Ricky Henderson out of contract, with rival interest in the Victorians believed to be growing.
Crows ruckman Sam Jacobs said on Wednesday he hoped Thompson would continue next season.
"I'm sure that will sort itself out in time," Jacobs said of Thompson's talks with the club.
"One thing I do know is he's had great form still, so hopefully he is [at the club next year]."
Thompson has played 307 AFL games, 268 of them since crossing to Adelaide at the end of 2004 after four seasons at Melbourne.
He won the Crows' best and fairest in 2011 and 2012, and in the latter season was named in the All Australian team.
A good run with injuries meant the Crows only played 29 players this season, the lowest number in the competition.
The likes of Wayne Milera, Riley Knight and Harrison Wigg developed their games in the reserves.
Jacobs said he was envious of the four teams remaining in the premiership race.
"The big games are still being played and we want to be a part of that and that's what we play footy for," Jacobs said.
"We're here to win finals and to play on the last day to give ourselves the best chance to do that.
"As a playing group, we're really driven.
"We've played a lot of footy together and this year's an opportunity we'll look back on and hopefully go better next year."
