PORT Adelaide's makeshift ruckman Jackson Trengove has endorsed recalling Matthew Lobbe for Saturday night's clash with Melbourne to double up on All Australian favourite Max Gawn.
Trengove has done an admirable job this season carrying the ruck load for the Power single-handedly in the absence of injured duo Lobbe and Dougal Howard and the suspended Patrick Ryder.
Lobbe put his hand up for a senior recall with a sensational performance in the SANFL last weekend to show he has returned to form after missing three months with a knee injury.
Asked if having himself and Lobbe going against Gawn would be a smart tactic, Trengove said it ''wouldn't be a bad idea.
''(Gawn) is obviously a ripping player, massive size, very hard, he's definitely in excellent form and very hard to stop.
''Obviously Lobbes played a really good game in the SANFL last week.
"Lobbes will be itching to come back into the team.
''He had a nasty injury and he's come back and got into some form on the weekend.
''He was dominate with 50-something hit-outs and worked well around the ground.''
The Power have won their past seven games against the Demons, including a 45-point victory in Alice Springs in round 10.
Gawn had 48 hit-outs then, but Trengove provided a contest around the ground as he has all season.
He has been one of the shining lights in an otherwise disappointing season for the Power, who are on track to miss the finals for the second straight year.
Previously a key defender, Trengove has embraced the challenge of taking on the ruck duties.
"I knew I could compete in the ruck,'' Trengove said.
''It's been a really good change up and you're not as stressed in the ruck as you are when you play on a key forward.
''It's been good for my footy, but at the end of the day, if we're not getting the wins, it doesn't really matter.''
Trengove conceded he had his colours lowered in last weekend's 67-point loss against the Sydney Swans at the SCG.
''I got dominated as a ruckman,'' he said.
''Around the grounds with throw-ins, I really got dominated in that area.
''It's been a work in progress, but I've really enjoyed it.''
Trengove didn't take part in the Power's training session at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday, instead completing a light session at the club's headquarters at Alberton to manage his workload.
Whether Trengove remains in the ruck next year when Lobbe, Ryder and Howard is yet to be determined.
"I'll do whatever is asked of me, whether it is ruck or down back or a little bit up forward,'' Trengove said.
''I've enjoyed going in the ruck and shouldering the load.
''It'd be nice with a bit of help at some stage because it does get pretty wearing, these blokes are massive units in the ruck.
''It's something I'll have to work on in pre-season if I'm going to play some more footy in the ruck next year.''
