ST KILDA veteran Sam Fisher is undecided about his future, with the defender nominating the next month as crucial in deciding whether he plays on next season.
Fisher played nine of the opening 10 games of the season before suffering a hamstring strain late in a training session ahead of the Saints’ trip to face Adelaide in round 11.
The 34-year-old suffered another setback with his hamstring at the start of July, pushing his return date back further.
Asked whether he had the desire to go on next year, Fisher said he was still unsure of his plans.
"It is an option, but I haven't really crossed that line yet," Fisher told RSN927 radio on Wednesday.
"I've just got to get back to playing and see how I go for the remaining month to six weeks of footy.
"If I can get back and still contribute in the way that I did in the first nine games, that door's always open."
Fisher is hopeful he will be fit to play for Sandringham in the VFL on July 24, with the Zebras to face the Casey Scorpions at Casey Fields.
"I'm scheduled to migrate into some one-one skills on Thursday and Saturday, which providing that all goes well I'll hopefully be back into full training next week," Fisher said.
"I'm a chance to play next week, probably in the VFL, with the amount of time I've spent out."
