THE AFL is close to unveiling a raft of changes to its talent pathway in Victoria, with the shake-up to see key roles shifted and a possible fixture restructure.
The changes could also see the TAC Cup have a 'shutdown period' in the middle of the season that coincides with the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.
The League on Monday started advertising the Metro and Country talent pathways manager roles after restructuring the department at AFL Victoria.
Affected staff have been encouraged to reapply for the roles, but it is understood long-time Vic Metro talent manager Anton Grbac will depart AFL Victoria.
The new structure will see the appointment of an overall Victorian talent manager who will oversee the two talent pathway managers (Metro and Country), and also manage a diversity manager and a female talent manager.
Grbac and Country counterpart Leon Harris have headed the talent departments across the TAC Cup system for more than two decades, with Victoria regularly providing more than half of the draft pool.
The personnel changes may also coincide with a different looking TAC Cup landscape next year, with a mid-season break being considered among a list of possible restructures.
The mooted break during the national under-18 carnival has been discussed, which stretches for about six weeks across May, June and July most years.
Full-time coaches for TAC Cup clubs has also been raised as a possibility under the AFL's review, with the League having identified the coaching of draft prospects as a priority at its talent review forum several years ago.
The AFL is also trying to find ways to align its clubs with under-18 teams under a more streamlined approach to fast-track their relationships as the next generation academies come to fruition.
