STARS including Daisy Pearce, Tayla Harris, Katie Brennan and Moana Hope are likely to be among the 16 AFL women’s league marquee players announced on Wednesday.
The list of marquee players for the eight women’s clubs – Adelaide, Brisbane Lions, Carlton, Collingwood, Fremantle, Greater Western Sydney, Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs – will be confirmed at simultaneous announcements in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
Pearce has represented Melbourne in AFL-run women’s exhibition series matches and works for the Demons.
Harris recently joined the Lions in a development role and Brennan has flagged her strong interest in continuing to play for the Bulldogs.
As previously reported, the trio is likely to line up with Melbourne, the Lions and the Bulldogs respectively in the first season of the new league, from February-March next year.
Under the rules of the women’s competition, the eight licensed clubs were asked to nominate up to five marquee players, with each club allocated two.
Marquee players will be paid around $25,000 each, with some in line to receive up to an additional $10,000 for relocation costs.
The clubs will fill the remainder of their 25-player squads via lottery-style state drafts in early October.
The 16 marquee players are expected to feature in the last exhibition series match, between the Bulldogs and the Demons, under lights on Saturday, September 3, at Whitten Oval.
