GREATER Western Sydney co-captain Phil Davis is a certainty to take on the Western Bulldogs despite visiting a scanning facility on Thursday.

GWS officials told AFL.com.au that Davis had a longstanding appointment to attend, he was not under any type of injury cloud, and will take his place in Saturday's preliminary final at Spotless Stadium.

The key defender trained strongly at the Giants' main training session on Wednesday, and will hit the track again on Friday before Saturday's near sellout final against the Dogs.

The key defender is likely to get the job on former teammate Tom Boyd and fellow ruckman Jordan Roughead, whenever the big men take their position in the Bulldogs forward line.

Davis played a pivotal role in the club's qualifying final win over the Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium, keeping Lance Franklin goalless from six second-half possessions, after the superstar forward was in great touch early in the match.

The 26-year-old has had an outstanding season, and despite missing three games mid-year with a hamstring injury has played 20 games for the first time since 2012.
