THE BRISBANE Lions have secured one of their most exciting young key-position prospects until the end of 2019, with a new two-year deal for Eric Hipwood finalised on Tuesday.
Hipwood is a former academy player who joined the club via pick No.14 in last year's NAB AFL Draft after the Lions matched a bid by Richmond.
The 200cm swingman was not set to come out of contract until the end of 2017, but AFL.com.au revealed a new deal had been signed off and the Lions confirmed the news on Tuesday evening.
The 18-year-old Queenslander has yet to make his senior debut but he's been a solid performer with the Lions' NEAFL team.
Playing all five NEAFL rounds so far, Hipwood has been named in the Lions' best two players twice.
Hipwood was named in defence in last year's All Australian under-18 team after starring for Queensland at the NAB AFL Championships.
