HAWTHORN defender Angus Litherland had minor shoulder surgery on Friday as he waits to see where he plays his football in 2017.
The talented youngster's operation was described as a clean up to the joint and the recovery process isn't expected to impact at all on his pre-season.
Litherland remains out of contract and could be an attractive option for clubs looking to boost their defence, having struggled to break into Hawthorn's defence for several seasons.
The 23-year-old has played 25 matches with the Hawks since making his debut in 2014 and has been on the list since being selected with pick No.55 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft.
However, Litherland was unable to cement a spot in the strong Hawks line-up in 2016, despite being named as an emergency for the 2015 Grand Final.
The West Australian began the season in the seniors but after four games went back to the VFL where he was a consistent performer, but only managed two more AFL games.
He has played in 23 wins in his 25 senior games and played in Box Hill's 2013 premiership team.
