PROMISING Brisbane Lions defender Sam Skinner has signed a new deal that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2018.
Skinner, who was taken with pick No.47 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft, is currently recovering from an ACL reconstruction, but the Lions have seen enough to extend his current deal.
"We’ve been exceptionally impressed with Sam’s dedication and enthusiasm as he begins his AFL journey," said the Lions' football manager, Matthew Francis.
“Despite arriving at the club injured, in his first season he has shown outstanding professionalism, character and commitment to building a career in the AFL.
“We see this extension as just reward for his effort.”
The 197cm tall backman is considered a versatile prospect for the club and could support Stefan Martin in the ruck from next year.
Skinner joins another high draftee from 2015, Eric Hipwood, in signing contract extensions as the Lions seek to ensure their young talent sticks with the club.
