INJURED Greater Western Sydney defender Caleb Marchbank has walked out on the club and requested a move via this year's trade period.
Marchbank, who is out of contract at the end of this season, played just two games this year because of serious ankle and shoulder injuries, and last played in the NEAFL when he dislocated his shoulder in round 16.
The Giants' number six draft pick at the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, who they obtained along with Ryan Griffen, in a deal which sent Tom Boyd to the Western Bulldogs, played just seven games in his two years in the league.
GWS released a statement on Thursday afternoon and said: "The Greater Western Sydney Giants today confirmed that Caleb Marchbank has requested a trade at the end of the season.
"The Giants will now endeavour to complete a trade that is beneficial to the club. The club wishes Caleb all the best for the future."
The 19-year-old was seen as a future star as a key defender, and the Giants will be bitterly disappointed in his decision to leave.
Carlton has been heavily linked to Marchbank given he was drafted by former GWS list manager Stephen Silvagni, who is now with the Blues, but the Victorian will no doubt be heavily chased by a number of Melbourne-based clubs.
