HAYDEN Ballantyne's manager Colin Young is set to speak with "a couple" of Melbourne clubs in finals contention on Tuesday to gauge interest in the Dockers fan favourite.
With the Dockers set to overhaul their list, the 29-year-old small forward has discussed his future with coach Ross Lyon and might have to look elsewhere for a shot at a premiership.
A move to Fremantle's cross-town rivals West Coast is another option and Young believed a deal could be done.
"I actually do, I think it would be good for both parties, I really do, and I think those days are gone where they wouldn't look at the best option … if they both win out of it that would be fantastic," Young said at the launch of NAB AFL Trade Radio.
"He'd love to stay in WA. He does know that he might have to leave."
Meanwhile, the Dockers are set to finally secure trade target Cam McCarthy after last year's bitter negotiations with Greater Western Sydney for the forward who suffered adjustment disorder living in Sydney.
The Dockers had two first-round picks on the table for McCarthy but the Giants made a stand and refused to do the deal.
Fremantle will likely secure McCarthy on a significantly reduced deal this year, with Young hopeful the clubs would meet soon.
