PORT Adelaide appears open to trading vice-captain Hamish Hartlett despite the midfielder's declaration that he now wants to stay with the club.
Hartlett and his Adelaide-based manager flew into Melbourne last week to meet with several Victorian clubs, including Essendon.
It is understood the 26-year-old then met with members of the Port leadership group, including coach Ken Hinkley, and was assured he remained a required player.
However, when asked about how Hartlett's plans came to change, football manager Chris Davies indicated on Monday the Power were still open to offers on their contracted vice-captain.
"As we've said all along, we're going to take an open mind into this trade period, and we'll come in here and see how things unfold today," Davies said.
Asked then if Hinkley had played a big role in locking Hartlett in, Davies repeated: "We approach this trade period with an open mind and what unfolds today will be interesting.
"We'll wait and see what the other clubs have got to say and move on from there," he said.
Hartlett's manager Michael Doughty of TLA last week said had flown to Melbourne to see what opportunities for him existed but now "it looks highly unlikely that a trade will happen".
Complicating any trade for Hartlett is the long-term deal he signed with Port, which doesn't expire until the end of 2020.
Being a contracted player, Hartlett would have the final say on any trade and would be unlikely to sacrifice a lucrative contract to make a trade possible.

Port has also been linked to Geelong ruckman Nathan Vardy, who Davies indicated would fit the profile of players Port was trying to secure.
The future of ruckman Matthew Lobbe was likely to unfold on Monday as the Power field interest from other clubs.
"We'll see what unfolds, and certainly clubs will show some interest in our players today, and we'll see what we can do throughout the period," Davies said.
"We want to have a certain profile on our list and if someone like Matthew (Lobbe) decides he wants to move club then we have to look at our situation from there.
"We're not linked in on any one particular player. We have a profile we want to achieve out of this."
