FORMER Port Adelaide and Richmond forward Jay Schulz will play suburban football next year after joining St Kevin's Old Boys in the Victorian Amateur Football Association.
The 31-year-old hoped to extend his 194-game career after he was delisted by the Power, but was unable to secure a new club.
Schulz booted 333 goals across 14 seasons with the Tigers and Power since being selected with the 12th overall pick of the 2002 NAB AFL Draft.
"Well from this young immature tiger to this father of 3, my AFL career has officially come to an end," Schulz wrote on his Facebook page.
"I will be forever grateful to Richmond FC and Port Adelaide Football Club for giving me the opportunity to live out my childhood dream.
"It's been a long 14 years and has played a big part in who I have become today.
"There have been many lows but some amazing highs, none other than playing finals – there's nothing quite like it!
"Time now to get stuck into the next phase of life, cheers."
St Kevin's director of football Michael Christian told VAFA Media the club is excited about adding the talented and experienced key position player to their list.
"Jay's been an outstanding player at AFL ranks over a number of years for Richmond and Port Adelaide and we're absolutely thrilled he's agreed to play with St Kevin's next year," Christian said.
St Kevin's are hopeful the addition of Schulz will convince his former Power teammate Steve Salopek from changing his mind about retiring.
Former Melbourne ruckman Mark Jamar will also join the club after he was a top-up player for Essendon this year.
Norm Smith medallist and ex-North Melbourne premiership star Shannon Grant was appointed coach of St Kevin's in September.
